At Arnold House, the wellbeing of every boy is at the heart of all that we do. We believe individual care and attention is essential for every child to feel safe, valued, and engaged—our pastoral provision is second to none.

A Supportive And Caring Environment

From the moment a boy joins Arnold House, he becomes part of a warm and nurturing school community. Form Teachers offer daily support and are always available to guide, encourage, and listen. Heads of Year provide an additional layer of care, monitoring both pastoral and academic development closely.

Our full-time School Nurse works in close collaboration with staff and the catering team to oversee all medical and dietary needs, ensuring every boy is cared for in a holistic way. The entire staff team plays an active role in promoting mental health and wellbeing, working closely with families to support each child as an individual.

Learning About Wellbeing

Through form time, assemblies, and our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) curriculum, boys learn to understand and care for their own mental and physical wellbeing. Special events, such as Children’s Mental Health Week and Wellbeing Week, offer opportunities for reflection, discussion, and community connection.

We are proud to partner with Tooled Up Education, giving Arnold House families free access to a library of evidence-based resources, expert advice, and webinars designed to support children’s emotional development at home and in school.

Voice, Values And Belonging

Every boy at Arnold House is encouraged to have a voice. We strive to ensure that every child feels included, accepted, and understood. Whether excelling academically, on the sports field, or through quiet everyday kindness, all boys are recognised and celebrated for their unique contributions.

Our House System plays a central role in fostering community and character. Each boy belongs to one of four Houses, promoting friendship across year groups and encouraging values such as Industry and Citizenship. House Points are awarded for positive behaviour, academic effort, and teamwork, contributing to a shared sense of achievement and pride.

Recognising Achievement And Encouraging Growth

Each week, our Citizenship Assembly is a highlight of school life—a chance to recognise hard work, kindness, and character. House Points earned throughout the week are celebrated, and achievements in sport, music, drama, and beyond are awarded with certificates, badges, or ties.

Our reward system focuses on positivity and encouragement, with recognition significantly outweighing sanctions. Boys may earn:

  • Industry badges or ties for consistent effort
  • Citizenship bars or ties for living the school’s values: Ready, Respectful, Responsible

While our focus is on reinforcement and growth, clear behavioural expectations are maintained. When needed, conduct penalties provide a framework for reflection and improvement. These are handled sensitively, with support from Heads of Year and communication with parents where appropriate.
