Pastoral Care at Arnold House Pre-Prep
Key Person Approach
In Pre-Reception and Reception, we implement a Key Person system to provide each boy with consistent, individualised support. Assigned during the staggered start process, a boy’s key person—usually the class teacher or a teaching assistant—acts as a dedicated guide throughout the year. This fosters strong, trusting relationships, ensures smooth transitions, and supports the holistic development of each child.
Key information and observations are shared with parents via Tapestry, our online learning journal. Biannual meetings between the Head of Pre-Prep and class teachers take place in the Autumn and Summer Terms to review each child’s progress and wellbeing.
Learning Support
We are committed to inclusive education that allows every boy to reach his full potential. Pupils receiving learning support have their progress reviewed termly to ensure they are thriving academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our Learning Support Team works closely with staff to:
- Promote inclusive classroom practices
- Offer strategies for differentiation and tailored learning
- Observe and set targets for individual pupils
- Screen for dyslexia and dyscalculia (from the end of Year 2)
- Coordinate specialist interventions
- Refer pupils for external assessments when needed
- Implement recommendations from external professionals
