The Pre-Prep when combined with Years 3 & 4 is known as the Junior School. Years 1 & 2 is for pupils between 5 and 7 years old. Boys enter the school when they have had their 5th birthday and are placed in one of two parallel forms with 19 boys in each form.
All boys in the Pre-Prep study the core subjects of Numeracy, Literacy and Science. These subjects are taught by their Form Teacher. The National Curriculum at Key Stage 1 is used as a guide in all subject areas. Art, French, PE, Music and IT are taught by specialist teachers which provides the boys with a broad and enriching curriculum. Boys in Year 2 also have a Library lesson once a week.
The English syllabus is broken down into different components: reading, writing, phonics, speaking and listening. In Mathematics, boys will experience number and number systems, shape, measurement, capacity and mass, handling data, mental calculations and problem solving. Science, History and Geography are taught as termly topics which embrace all aspects of the core curriculum.
In addition, the boys follow a Drama programme in conjunction with the requirements of the English syllabus. This is run on a fortnightly rolling programme with Year 1 and Year 2 either having Drama or Design and Technology on alternate weeks. The boys have three PE lessons a week and two games days in the summer term at the Arnold House Activity Centre at Canons Park in preparation for Sports Day.
