The educational landscape is in constant motion, shaped, in part, by constant technological advancements. As teachers (and parents), understanding these shifts and how technology integrates into our school is crucial for its continual success. My attendance at BETT 2025, further solidified my view that our school is not simply adapting to change, but actively embracing it, to deliver a forward-thinking and inclusive education for every boy in our care.
BETT 2025 highlighted several key trends that are reshaping teaching and learning across the UK and beyond. Central among these were the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the critical importance of sustainability in education, and the strategic implementation of robust digital infrastructures. We are proud to be adapting to these developments, with a focus on enhancing teaching and learning for every pupil.
Key Trends from BETT 2025
BETT 2025 further highlighted AI’s impact on education, emphasising its role as a supportive companion for teachers, not a replacement. Discussions centered on AI’s ability to streamline administrative tasks, personalise learning pathways, and provide sophisticated analytical insights. Another critical theme was the urgent need for greater sustainability in education. This includes reducing the environmental impact of schools through paperless initiatives and energy-efficient technologies, as well as utilising an integrated curriculum focus to develop environmentally conscious citizens. Finally, the conference stressed the importance of a secure digital strategy. With increasing reliance on digital tools, robust infrastructure, stringent cybersecurity protocols, and comprehensive data protection are paramount.
AI as a Classroom Companion
Aligning with the insights from BETT 2025, our school is actively leveraging AI-powered tools to enhance our teaching staff’s effectiveness. Access to the educational platforms from Google and Microsoft help with lesson planning, content creation, and administrative tasks. These systems help reduce workload, freeing up valuable time for teachers to focus on their most important task; teaching.
Personalised Learning Through Intelligent Platforms
The drive towards hyper-personalised learning, a prominent feature at BETT 2025, is embedded in many of the educational tools used in the school. We use sophisticated platforms such as Century Tech, Atom Learning, and IXL, which dynamically adapt to each pupil’s individual learning pace and style. These platforms provide real-time feedback, empowering boys to understand their progress; provide actionable insights for teachers to tailor support; and create adaptive recommendations that reinforce or extend learning. This approach ensures each pupil receives the right level of challenge and the support needed to build confidence and further develop their independent learning habits.
Digital Strategy, Cybersecurity, and Sustainability
In line with BETT’s emphasis on robust digital infrastructure, we continuously modernise our systems to ensure they are secure and fit for purpose. Cybersecurity is a top priority; all platforms used by the school undergo rigorous vetting to meet the highest standards of data protection and privacy. Responding to the focus on environmentally responsible practices at BETT 2025, we actively encourage a reduction in our ecological footprint by minimizing paper use, investing in energy efficient devices, and adopting digital-first strategies. These measures support our sustainability goals and teach pupils about caring for the environment in the digital age.
Professional Development and Responsible AI Use
The success of technological integration hinges on the proficiency of our teachers. We maintain a commitment to ongoing professional development. Staff recently participated in a dedicated INSET session on the ethical use of AI in education, including hands-on training with Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. These tools are already enhancing teaching and learning.
In the senior part of the school, we are equipping boys with the knowledge and skills to use AI safely, ethically, and effectively. Through dedicated lessons and work in many parts of the curriculum, boys explore how AI works, its potential benefits, and risks, and how to critically evaluate the tools they encounter as well as the response to a prompt which they are presented with. This prepares them not just to use technology, but to understand it further.
Our aim is to provide an academically rigorous, personally supportive, and responsive learning environment. We are excited about the opportunities AI and digital innovation bring and remain committed to using them in ways that reflect our values and serve the best interests of our boys.
