Drama
In Drama at AH, the boys are encouraged to work together in a programme of activities that enhances their ability to learn as part of a group. They develop their understanding and appreciation of others through imaginative dramatic exploration. They are taught to work as part of a community whilst also developing their innate performing talents.
In Pre-Prep, the boys take part in a Harvest Festival play and a Nativity Play in their first term at the school. Additionally, there is classroom drama on a two-week programme for Years 1 and 2.
In Years 3 and 4 the boys take part in an Arts Festival: boys perform over two nights at Canons Park, encompassing music, drama and verse-speaking. Classroom drama is also taught in Years 3 – 5, as well as being a key part of the Compass Course in the Lent Term of Y6. Years 5-6 can choose to participate in a weekly drama club.
In Y7, the boys go to Canons Park for four days of drama. This year they are working towards a devised piece of physical theatre, based on Aesop’s Fables.
Finally, in Y8, the boys have the chance to take part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival on the professional stage. This year, the boys performed at the Unicorn Theatre in a thirty minute production of Macbeth.
