Religious Studies
The Religious Studies at Arnold House aims to introduce pupils from the youngest age to the major world religions. While primary emphasis is placed upon Christianity, pupils from all other traditions are encouraged to share their experience and explore issues surrounding PHSE (Personal, Health and Social Education) and Citizenship in RS lessons and assemblies. In Years 1 and 2, people from the Jewish, Hindu and Muslim cultures are invited to speak to the pupils about festivals pertaining to their particular faith.
All pupils in Years 7 and 8 follow the Common Entrance syllabus in Religious Studies and the broad aims of the department are as follows:
- To encourage pupils to have a healthy respect for and understanding of the beliefs of others
- To introduce pupils to the major world religions
- To study in depth the Old and the New Testaments
- To develop an awareness of moral and social issues
- To enable pupils to discuss and confer about spiritual and ethical topics
All pupils should have a copy of the Lion Children's Bible for reference (ISBN 07459 1939 1) and a copy of the 'Good News' Bible or the Niv Bible.
