Music
The overall aim of the Music curriculum at Arnold House is to foster the enjoyment and involvment in Music in a broad context. This aim centres on the philosophy that Music is essentially a practical subject and that those who perform and compose Music at any level will respond to Music with increased understanding.
The objectives of music education at Arnold House are:
- To enable pupils to value Music and acquire knowledge by acquaintance, i.e. by listening to and playing Music.
- To develop the capacity to express ideas and feelings symbolically through the medium of sound.
- To develop the necessary theory skills and concepts whilst engaged in 'hands on' musical activity.
- To develop social skills and awareness through making Music.
- To offer pupils opportunities to experience the personal satisfaction and self–confidence derived from striving for the highest possible standards whilst engaged in musical activity.
- To develop and awareness of musical traditions and developments in a variety of cultures and societies.
- To be able to use ICT as a tool to enhance musical understanding and learning.
The music curriculum at Arnold House hopes to engage pupils in first hand musical experiences both in the classroom and in extra curricular activities, which are sufficiently absorbing and challenging regardless of ability.
