Mathematics
The Mathematics syllabus is made up of different strands, comprising in the Primary Framework: using and applying Mathematics; counting and understanding number; knowing and using number facts; calculating; understanding shape; measuring; handling data.
Using and Applying Mathematics
Selecting and using the right method for solving a problem. Making a table or drawing a diagram to get a start on a solution.
Counting and Understanding Number
Understanding numbers; place value (hundreds, tens, units, tenths, hundredths etc); fractions.
Knowing and Using Number Facts
Times tables; number bonds to 10; factors; multiples; squares; square roots.
Calculating
The 4 rules of arithmetic: +, -, x and /. Finding fractions by division.
Understanding Shape
2-D and 3-D shapes, their names and properties. Symmetry. Co-ordinates. Translations, reflections, rotations. Angles.
Measuring

At Key Stage 3 (years 7 & 8) the curriculum is divided into:
- Number and Algebra including arithmetic with numbers in their varied forms; ratio and proportion; accuracy and rounding; algebra as generalised arithmetic; equations, formulae and simplifying algebraic expressions; graphs.
- Geometry and Measures including properties of 2-D & 3-D shapes; areas, surface areas and volumes; transformations; units of measurements and conversions from one to another; scale factors; Pythagoras; constructions and bearings.
- Statistics including interpreting data; probability.
