Overview
The broad aims of the department are that all pupils will:
- enjoy using ICT and tackle all applications with confidence and a sense of achievement
- develop practical skills in the use of ICT and the ability to apply these skills to the solving of relevant and worthwhile problems
- understand the capabilities and limitations of ICT and the implications and consequences of its use
The emphasis in our teaching with Information & Communication Technology is on the use of computers as tools to support learning. Thus:
- all pupils are made familiar (at as early a stage as possible) with basic aspects of disc and printer management and efficient use of keyboard and mouse
- as pupils progress through the school they are encouraged to develop growing independence in their use of ICT, as a tool, appropriate to any given activity and in their choice of required software
The school has a dedicated ICT room with facilities that allow each pupil in a class to use a PC on their own. A second ICT suite is available in the music department where a whole class can be catered for on a one PC between two pupils basis. The school has interactive whiteboards in almost half of the teaching rooms and ICT use has become a familiar part of the pupil's education.
