ICT

The Arnold House ICT department offers access to ICT to all pupils and staff within the School. Pupils in Years 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 have dedicated ICT lessons with the Head of Department. In Year 1 pupils are taught to use ICT by their Form Teachers and in Years 5 & 6 pupils use ICT in a more open–ended form of learning through the School's Compass Course Programme.

Information & Communication Technology is important because:

  • The use of ICT is widespread in the modern technological world and likely to continue to grow
  • ICT is an important medium for learning and study at all educational levels

The broad aims of the department are that all pupil's will:

  • enjoy using ICT and tackle all applications with confidence and a sense of achievement
  • develop practical skills in the use of ICT and the ability to apply these skills to the solving of relevant and worthwhile problems
  • understand the capabilities and limitations of ICT and the implications and consequences of its use

The emphasis in our teaching with Information & Communication Technology is on the use of computers as tools to support learning. Thus:

  • all pupils are made familiar (at as early a stage as possible) with basic aspects of disc and printer management and efficient use of keyboard and mouse
  • as pupils progress through the School they are encouraged to develop growing independence in their use of ICT, as a tool, appropriate to any given activity and in their choice of required software

The School has a dedicated ICT room with facilities that allow each pupil in a class to use a PC on their own. A second ICT suite is available in the music department where a whole class can be catered for on a one PC between two pupils basis. The School has interactive whiteboards in almost half of the teaching rooms and ICT use has become a familiar part of the pupil's education.
