Year 8 Coastal Field Work Outline – Guidance and Help Sheet
This sheet tells you what you need to include in your project and how you need to write it
Your project should have:
1.Introduction
This should include:
- A written description of where Dorset is
- The map the location of Dorset
- The geological map
- A written description of the geological map
2. Aims
- What are the aims of the study?
- What do you hope to achieve?
3. Methods
- A description of the location of the place we studied (refer to the map)
- The map of the area with the place we visited
- A description of what we did at each place we visited:
- Stairhole
- Lulworth cove
- Durdle Door & beach
- Studland Bay
- The Foreland (Old Harry's Rock)
- Swanage Bay
4. Results
You need to provide the results for each place we visited in the following order:
- Stairhole: field sketch (plus photo)
- Lulworth Cove : field sketch (plus photo)
- Durdle Door: field sketch (plus photo)
- Old Harry's Rock: (field sketch)
- Durdle Door & Studland Bay: beach profile
- Swanage Bay : to be discussed
5. Analysis
With a section for each place and with reference to the results, write what was responsible for each landform. You could include relevant photos in this.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR STUDY.
Conclusion
This section only needs to be about a paragraph long. You need to summarise the results and use them to either prove or disprove your hypothesis. You need to state whether you think your hypothesis is true or false and why.
