Curriculum
Science
At Arnold House, Science is taught from Year 1 to 8. In the Junior School, Form Teachers teach Science in their classrooms. In the Senior School, specialist Science teachers take their lessons mainly in the Science Laboratory.
Pupils are prepared for National Curriculum examinations and take the Key Stage 1 Science exam at the end of Year 2, and the Key Stage 2 exam at the end of Year 6. The National Curriculum syllabuses are available from www.qca.org.uk. In Years 7 and 8 pupils follow the Common Entrance 13+ syllabus, based on Key Stage 3 Science. The aims of the Science Department are as follows:
- To maintain and stimulate pupil's curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Science.
- To enable pupils to be familiar with a body of scientific knowledge and vocabulary.
- To enable pupils to understand and use scientific method with safety being a major consideration.
- To enable pupils to work independently and in partnership with others.
- To develop a sense of awareness for the relevance and implications of Science, past, present and future, for the individual, the community and the environment.
